Week 7 Update (2024 Chicago Marathon Training)
Balancing long runs with joyful celebrations and family time
Dear Duniyawaalo (People of the World),
In my previous post, I shared my journey through Week 6 of my Chicago Marathon training, during which I balanced rigorous training with a storytelling event. This week was a delightful mix of training and celebration as I attended a three-day wedding ceremony while continuing my marathon preparations.
Wedding Celebrations and Training
I attended our friend's son's beautiful three-day wedding ceremony this week. The festivities were lively, and I truly enjoyed the celebrations and the delicious food. I’m proud to have stayed away from alcohol, knowing how it could affect my training. Balancing enjoyment and discipline was key.
Running Routine
This week was a scale-back week for my training, with a planned 10-mile long run. I completed this run in Hamilton Park and then met with my running group at Deer Grove East to finish. The weather was challenging, with temperatures reaching 77 degrees, making the last 3 miles particularly tough.
Despite the heat, I managed to stick to my schedule, completing three days of running and two days of strength training. Running with my son, Utkarsh, was a special highlight, and joining my friend Tiffany for CrossFit added variety to my routine.
Nutrition and Progress
Considering the wedding festivities, I followed my plan of eating healthy and nutritious food about 70% of the time. This week, my weight increased by 2 pounds, bringing me to 262 pounds. It was expected, and I’m okay with it. I realized the importance of enjoying life while staying committed to my training goals.
Looking Ahead
Next week is a real test, with a 16-mile run on the schedule. I’m looking forward to the challenge and continuing my progress toward the marathon.
