Week 5 Update (2024 Chicago Marathon Training)
Balancing Long Runs and New Experiences at the Renaissance Faire
Dear Duniyawaalo (People of the World),
In my previous post, I shared the progress of Week 4 in my Chicago Marathon training journey. Now, let’s dive into Week 5, filled with exciting new experiences and solid training sessions.
A highlight of the Week — Renaissance Faire
This week was exciting, with the main highlight being my first-ever visit to the Renaissance Faire in Bristol, Wisconsin. I went with some Fast Track Racing Team members, and it was an unforgettable experience. I am also working on writing a separate post about my time there, so be on the lookout for that one.
My Planned Long Run
I scaled back my 10-mile run to Saturday to accommodate the Renaissance Faire on Sunday. The run was enjoyable, and I even participated in a Beer Crawl with my Friday Night Flights team afterward. Running into my friend Janice Keilman during my long run was also a pleasant surprise.
Additional Training Update
This week, I fit in one additional 4.5-mile run and one strength training session. Although less than usual, I walked 17,000 steps at the Renaissance Faire, which provided an excellent workout. Overall, I’m pleased with my training for the week.
Nutrition and Wellness
I followed my plan of eating healthy and nutritious food about 80% of the time. My weight has remained steady at 263 pounds (starting from 266), but I feel fantastic and energetic, which matters more than a number on the scale.
Looking Ahead
Next week, I’m gearing up for a long run of 14 miles, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
