Week 2 Update (2024 Chicago Marathon Training)
Balancing Marathon Training with Life's Celebrations
Dear Duniyawaalo (People of the World),
In my previous post, I shared the start of my 2024 Chicago Marathon training journey. In this post, I had provided an update on Week 1. Here’s an update on Week 2, where I faced the challenge of balancing training with planning for my son’s high school graduation party.
Managing a Busy Week
This week was particularly busy preparing for my son’s graduation party on Sunday. The celebration was filled with delicious food and drinks, so I had to push my long run by two days to recover properly.
Running Routine
Despite the busy schedule, I managed to stick to my planned runs. I completed my 4-mile run, split my 2-mile and 3-mile runs over two days due to rain, and finished my long run of 8 miles. It felt great to get back on track, even with the minor adjustments.
Strength Training Success
I’m pleased to report that I completed two days of strength training. Having the company of my friends Tiffany Perry DeRamos, Ronak Patel, and my son Utkarsh made the sessions more enjoyable and motivating.
Nutrition Balance
I aimed to follow my plan of eating healthy and nutritious food 75% of the time. However, the graduation party meant indulging a bit, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This week, I gained back the 1 pound I had lost in Week 1, returning me to square one. I am not too worried about this as it was expected, and I had planned for it.
Looking Ahead
As I move into Week 3, I plan to visit a friend in Cincinnati over the July 4th long weekend. I anticipate more food and drinks, but I’m determined to keep up with my training.
