Week 1 Update (2024 Chicago Marathon Training)
Easing into the Training with Mindfulness and Determination
Dear Duniyawaalo (People of the World),
In my previous post, I announced the kickoff for my third marathon training and exciting journey toward the 2024 Chicago Marathon.
Today, I want to provide my Week 1 update for my 17-week training. My first week has been one of easing into the training routine and focusing on balancing exercise, recovery, and nutrition.
Listening to Myย Body
This week, I decided to take it easy due to lingering pain from my last marathon in Milwaukee at the BrewCity marathon. While the pain wasnโt too severe, I knew it was important not to push myself too hard right from the start.
Running Routine
I follow Jeff Gallowayโs Run-Walk-Run technique.
I mostly stuck to my planned runs. I completed my 4-mile run as scheduled and my 6-mile long run. However, I opted to walk 3 miles instead of running, as I wanted to give myself a little more rest.
Strength Training Challenges
One area where I fell short was strength training. Unfortunately, I couldnโt start my strength training routine last week. However, I am committed to incorporating it into my weekly schedule to build overall fitness and endurance.
Nutrition Goals
In terms of my nutrition, I aimed to eat healthy and nutritious food 80% of the time. I attended a couple of get-togethers, which made it challenging to stick to my plan. However, maintaining this healthy balance is essential, and Iโm happy with my progress.
Weight Lossย Goals
I am currently 265 pounds (6 feet 5 inches tall) and aim to drop 25 pounds as part of my training.
I am happy to share that I dropped 1 pound in my first week.
