Embracing Gratitude for the Blessings of Living in a Safe Neighborhood
A Gratitude Journal Entry
Dear Duniyawaalo (People of the World),
Today on this wonderful cold morning at my home in Chicago I feel a profound sense of gratitude for the gift and blessing of living in a neighborhood that gives me a feeling of safety and security.
I feel truly humbled for having the opportunity and liberty to go about my daily routines, without fear, and being able to appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
My surroundings allow me to immerse myself in the hustle and bustle of my neighborhood, be it talking with people walking their pets, feeling the joy in watching kids play and waving at neighbors sitting outside or driving past me.
The invaluable freedom and peace that comes from walking the streets of my neighborhood knowing that I am protected and safe from harm is something I never take for granted. It is really unfortunate and sad that this level of comfort and freedom is not universal. For many people in the world, the simple act of walking down the street can be dangerous and terrifying, and the fear and anxiety that comes with it can be really overwhelming. For some the idea of even living in peace can be a distant dream.
It serves as a sobering reminder to me that this feeling of safety and freedom I feel is not only a privilege, but also a responsibility. I need to play my part in advocating for a world where everyone can experience the same sense of peace that I feel knowing that I am free, safe and secure.
