Dear Duniyawaalo (People of the World),
Today on this wonderful day I want to express my deep gratitude for the late Jim Rohn. His life-altering wisdom had a profound impact on my life and completely transformed my perspective on personal development and success. His timeless principles have proved to be the much needed catalyst in my transformation journey.
One of the most important principles that Jim Rohn taught me was that being successful is a choice, and it all starts with taking personal responsibility. I learnt to recognize that for things to change, I have to change. I stopped blaming others and started taking personal responsibility for anything and everything that happened in my life, especially the bad experiences. I slowly started to realize that I have full control over my own life and that I have the power to make my own decisions, create the life that I want, and to achieve my goals.
Rohn’s wisdom challenged me to not wish that things were easier, but to wish that I was better. Not to wish that there were less problems, but to wish that I had more skills. I have now come to believe that it isn’t the absence of problems that create a successful person, but the ability to effectively tackle them. I now see problems as opportunities for growth and a way to hone my skills, develop resilience, and to see what it would make of me once I overcome challenges and reach a goal.
On a similar note, Rohn encouraged me to not wish for fewer challenges, but to wish for more wisdom. It dawned on me that challenges are an inherent part of life. Instead of trying to evade them, I now chose to accumulate wisdom to navigate these challenges. This profound insight fostered in me a desire for being a lifelong learner who has a thirst for knowledge and wisdom that enhances my abilities to manage life’s trials and tribulations. By wishing to become better rather than seeking an easier journey, I have come to appreciate the transformative power of acquiring new skills, gaining knowledge, and expanding my wisdom and horizon.
The most impactful words that resonated with me were when Jim Rohn posed a profound question: What kind of pain do I want to experience in life - the pain of discipline or the pain of regret? I realized that the pain of discipline, though initially challenging, pales in comparison to the enduring pain of regret. Every single day since then I made a conscious choice to embrace the discomfort of discipline, knowing that it is a pathway to personal growth, fulfillment, and a life lived without regret.
