Life is not just built on our wins.
Sometimes, it is shaped more by what we lose.

I want to share what happened when I lost a part of who I thought I was.

This is not a comeback story. This is something I am still working through.

After the 2025 Chicago Marathon in October, I got injured (Plantar Fasciitis).

At first, I thought it was temporary.
Rest a little. Recover. Get back.

But the recovery did not go the way I expected.
The injury stayed. Not as bad, but not gone either.

And slowly, something else started to slip.

Running was never just an exercise for me.
It was my anchor.
It was how I saw myself.

I was a runner.

That identity carried me through some of the toughest phases of my life.
It gave me structure, discipline, and a sense of belonging.

Then one day, I could not run.

And I did not realize how much of me was tied to that until it was gone.

At first, it was just a missed workout.
Then a few more.
Then it became easier not to show up.

Movement stopped.
But my eating did not.

And the weight started to come back.

What scared me was not just the weight.

It was how familiar everything felt.

I had been in this place before.
Years ago.
When I was lost, unhealthy, and trying to just get through the day.

This felt like I was slipping back into that version of myself.

But this time, something was different.

Because of the mindfulness practices I have built over the years,
I could see it happening.

I could observe the thoughts.
The avoidance.
The slow drift.

And that made it even harder in a different way.

I knew what needed to be done.
Move. Show up. Start small.

But I could not bring myself to do it.

Staying home gave me more time and space to think.
And in that space, I started seeing things more clearly.

About myself.
About my patterns.
About parts of my life I had not fully faced before.

That clarity did not always help.

Sometimes, it added to the weight.
It made it easier to stay stuck.
To delay.
To tell myself I would start tomorrow.

There was also a thought that kept coming back.

What if this never fully heals?
What if I never run races again?

I realized I was not just afraid of the injury.
I was afraid of losing a part of who I thought I was.

And something deeper.

I was afraid I would no longer belong in the very community that helped shape me.

Even though I know the people would still support me,
I was not sure if I could still see myself the same way.

That was hard to admit.

Over time, with space and reflection, something became clear.

My identity had become too narrow.

I had tied it to running.
One outcome.
One version of myself.

And when running went away, everything shook.

So I had to ask myself a different question.

Who am I if I cannot be that runner again?

That question stayed with me.
Not as something to solve, but something I had to sit with.

Because I realized I had quietly made running my identity.

And when that identity cracked,
I felt like I had nothing to stand on.

That is when it became clear.

If my identity depends on one outcome,
It will always be fragile.

So instead of trying to get back to who I was,
I had to choose who I want to be now.

I am someone who shows up for my mind and body every day.

No matter what that looks like.

Some days it is walking.
Some days it is strength work.
Some days it is just doing something small.

It is not perfect.
It is not where I used to be.

But it is consistent.

And more importantly, it feels stable.

I am not fully back.
And I am not trying to be.

I am rebuilding differently.

This week, I completed my first 5K run after my plantar fasciitis injury.

This felt like a meaningful milestone for me.

I could feel how out of shape I am.
I was out of breath at times.

But I expected that.

What mattered more was that I showed up and finished it.

I am proud of myself for that.

This is just a start.

It is a long road ahead, and I need to be careful.

But I feel something I had not felt in a while.

I feel like I am moving again.

I have done this before.
And I trust I can build again.

Today I came across a quote on Facebook that made me pause.

Build a team so strong that no one can point out the leader.

At first, it sounded beautiful.
Almost poetic.
But the more I sat with it, the more something inside me pushed back.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of leading engineering teams. Nothing teaches you about leadership faster than building things with other people. Especially when things break.

And they always do.

So when I read that quote, I asked myself a simple question.
Is leadership supposed to be invisible?

I am not so sure.

A strong team should absolutely have shared ownership. People should step up. People should lead in their own roles. A team that depends on one person is not a strong team.

But leadership itself should not disappear.

A leader should not hide.

A leader should stand in front when decisions need to be made.
A leader should set direction when things are unclear.
A leader should take responsibility when things go south.

In my experience, the healthiest teams follow a simple principle.

Protect the team in public.
Hold each other accountable in private.

When things go wrong, the leader steps forward.
Not to blame anyone.
But to say, “This is on us. We will fix it.”

That creates trust.

People feel safe to try things. They know they will not be thrown under the bus when something fails.

But behind closed doors, the conversation must still be honest.

What happened?
What did we miss?
What will we do differently next time?

Accountability still matters.
Without it, teams drift.

Leadership is not about taking all the credit. In fact, the opposite is true.

A good leader gives the credit away.

When the team succeeds, the leader shines the light on the people who did the work.

But when things go wrong, the leader steps forward first.
The buck stops there.

Humility in leadership does not mean hiding.
It means not making everything about yourself.

A humble leader is still visible.

They make bold decisions when needed.
They accept responsibility when things fail.
They give credit when things succeed.

And slowly, over time, something interesting happens.

Leadership begins to show up everywhere in the team.

Not because the leader disappeared.
But because the leader showed others how to lead.

One thing I have learned.

A strong leader does not hide.
A strong leader builds strong people.

And when that happens, leadership multiplies.

I am still reflecting on that quote I saw.

Maybe the goal is not to make the leader invisible.

It Is Changing How We Work.

Lately, I keep hearing a quiet fear from professionals and local business owners:
“Will AI take my job?”
“Will automation replace my staff?”

This fear is real.
And it should not be dismissed.

Because the truth is, AI will change many roles.
Some tasks will be automated.
Some workflows will become faster.

But work has never been only about tasks.

A receptionist does more than answer calls.
They set the tone for the customer experience.

They make decisions in uncertain situations.

They build relationships, trust, and vision.

AI can assist with execution.
But it cannot replace human judgment, empathy, and responsibility.

Another important reality:
Not everyone has the luxury to redesign their role overnight.

Many people have worked in stable roles for years because businesses needed consistency, not constant reinvention.

So this is not about blaming people.
It is about adapting thoughtfully.

For local businesses, this shift is actually an opportunity.

Instead of using AI to replace people,
It can be used to reduce busywork and free teams to focus on:

I keep hearing the phrase “AI slop.”

Polished posts.
Big claims.
Very little substance.

It is easy to blame AI.

But I am not convinced the tool is the real problem.

AI can only respond to the depth of the question behind it.

For example.
You could ask:
“Write a LinkedIn post about how AI is improving writing.”

You will likely get something polished.
Probably accurate.
Completely forgettable.

Now ask:
“I have been writing long before AI. Now I use it daily to sharpen my thinking. Some people call that AI slop. Help me examine whether I am using AI to avoid thinking, or to deepen it. Where might I be fooling myself?”

Same topic.
Very different result.

The second question carries context.
History.
Tension.
A real stake.

AI can only go as deep as the human who shows up.
That has been my experience.

Before generative AI, learning meant hours of searching, reading, stitching ideas together, and hoping I found what mattered.

Now I can pressure test my thinking in minutes.

I treat AI like a sharp-thinking partner.

It will hallucinate sometimes.
So I ask for sources.
I challenge it.
I push back.

It does not replace my thinking. It accelerates it.

But here is the part we should not ignore.

AI makes it easier to publish.
And when publishing becomes frictionless, discipline matters more.

Speed can dilute depth.
Confidence can replace struggle.
Efficiency is not the same as insight.

I still sit with ideas on my own before I bring them to AI.
If the tool disappeared tomorrow, my thinking would not.

When the Truth Gets Quiet, We Must Get Loud

This Is Not a Political Post

This is a personal one.
This is a human one.

It is about what happens when good, law-abiding people, especially immigrants, get caught in the crossfire of distraction and division.

It is about what happens when billionaires avoid taxes and accountability,
while people like you and me get lectured about being responsible citizens.

It is about what happens when the truth gets drowned out by noise,
and the country forgets what it was meant to stand for.

I Am an Immigrant. I Am an American. And I Am Anxious.

I came to this country in the year 2000.
I became a citizen in 2010. The legal way, the long way, the hard way.

I never took that privilege lightly.

I believed, and still believe, that it was my responsibility to assimilate.
To understand this country.
To contribute. To speak up. To belong.

And I did that every chance I got.
I made friends.
I showed up.
I stayed grateful.
I stayed positive.

I have never felt racially profiled.
I have never been made to feel like I did not belong.
Not once.

Until recently!

Until talk of “denaturalizing citizens” started gaining ground.
Until politicians began floating the idea of revoking citizenship over minor infractions, like misfiled taxes or paperwork errors.

I still believe in the rule of law.
I still believe in the judiciary.
But I would be lying if I said I did not feel anxious.

I worked hard for this identity.
I earned it.
And now I worry that it can be taken away.
Not by justice, but by politics.

That leaves me unsettled.
Not just as an immigrant.
As a proud American.

Have We Forgotten What America Is Supposed to Be?

Etched on the Statue of Liberty are these words:

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…

That is what America promised.
Not luxury.
Not shortcuts.
Just a fair shot.
For the tired, the poor, and the willing.

What happened to that promise?

We cannot talk about law and order while punishing the peaceful and excusing the violent.
We cannot talk about fairness while rewarding wealth and penalizing decency.

I have seen peaceful immigrants deported over technicalities.
And at the same time, I have watched people who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6th walk free.
Some were pardoned.
Some were never charged.
Some are running for office.

That contradiction cuts deep.

The Real Divide Is Not Left vs. Right

It is Top vs. Bottom.
It is Truth vs. Distraction.

When politicians talk tough on immigration but pass tax breaks for billionaires, by cutting Medicare, Medicaid, food assistance, public education, and even international humanitarian aid like USAID,
we should pay attention.

These cuts do not hurt the wealthy.
They hurt the elderly, the sick, the poor, the students, and the struggling.

When the media tells us to fear the “other” but not question corporate power, we should ask why.

And when legal, peaceful immigrants are portrayed as dangerous, while insurrectionists are treated as patriots, we should say, “Enough”!

Becoming a Well-Informed Citizen Is the Most Radical Thing We Can Do

Not just an opinionated one.
Not just a loud one.
Not just a hashtag-sharing one.

A well-informed one.

One who asks better questions.
One who looks past the headlines.
One who votes with clarity.
One who builds community instead of walls.

Here Is What I Believe

I believe we can disagree on policy and still agree on basic human decency.

I believe the immigrant who works 14 hours a day to feed his family deserves more respect than the billionaire who dodges taxes and calls it strategy.

I believe outrage is cheap and understanding is hard.

And I believe the only way forward is through courageous citizenship.
The kind that thinks critically, listens deeply, and acts boldly.

What You Can Do

• Turn outrage into awareness
  Ask, Who benefits from my anger? before you react.

• Focus local
  Billionaires do not pick your school board. You do.

• Build bridges, not bubbles
  Conversations change minds. Echo chambers do not.

• Support what lifts people up
  Community matters more than commentary.

Final Thought

You may not agree with everything I said.
That is okay.

But if you have ever felt the weight of being misunderstood,

When I moved to the United States 25 years ago, I did not expect to learn life lessons at a fast food counter.

But some lessons do not show up in books or research.

So, one day, I walked into a McDonald’s for my first solo American meal.
I thought I was prepared. I had rehearsed the order in my head.
Everything was going smoothly until the cashier looked at me and asked:

“Here or to go?”

That one question broke my brain.

I had no idea what she meant. I froze.
In that moment, I was no longer in America. I was in limbo.
Am I supposed to leave?
Am I supposed to eat here?
Is this a test?
Do I win something?

That tiny moment led to a small panic spiral and, eventually, a surprising realization.
About cultural differences.
About freedom.
And about what it really means to belong in a place that once felt foreign.

I was supposed to run 14 miles this week. Instead, I could barely walk.

Week 5 of my 2025 Chicago Marathon training had ended well. I had shown up for every run, every strength session. I had even made a tough but wise decision to postpone my long run due to the intense summer heat.

That took maturity. Knowing when to pause and not let pride dictate the plan.

The new plan was simple. Do the 14-mile run early in Week 6, then ease into a cutback week with a 10-miler on the weekend.

But life, as it often does, had other ideas.

The Injury I Did Not See Coming

My younger brother was visiting me from India. We took a short hiking trip to Starved Rock.

Just the two of us, cooking on a wood fire, hiking trails, and catching up under the stars. In many ways, it was food for the soul.

Then, on the last night at the cabin, I slipped barefoot on the wooden stairs and slammed my left big toe against the edge of a step.

A deep cut. Bruised skin.

I barely felt it at the time until my brother pointed out that I was bleeding. The pain came later.

I went to urgent care the next day. The doctor looked at me the way doctors look at runners, knowing we are stubborn. She told me what I did not want to hear.

No running for at least 2 weeks. Maybe more.

She gave me a Tetanus shot, antibiotics, and the hard truth.

What This Meant for My Training

This injury could not have come at a worse time.

I was just entering the most critical phase of base building and prepping for the 14, 16, and 18-mile long runs that would lead up to my Hidden Gem Half Marathon in early September. Those runs might now be off the table.

This is the kind of moment that makes runners spiral.

The kind that messes not just with your body, but your mind.

And I will be honest, I have not slept well since it happened.

Not because of the pain, but because of the anxiety.

What does this mean for the marathon?
Am I falling behind?
Did I lose my momentum?

But Here Is What I Know From Life, Not Just Running

Setbacks are not the end of the world.
They feel like it in the moment. But they are not.

Life does not wait for your training schedule. It shows up, uninvited, to test your flexibility.

Not just in muscles, but in mindset.

This was not the first curveball life has thrown at me. It will not be the last.

But what I have learned, over and over again, is this:

You cannot always control what happens. But you can always control how you respond.

And I am choosing to respond with presence, not panic.

I am shifting from performance to patience.
From momentum to mindfulness.
From panic to planning.

My Focus Now Is Simple

Even though I cannot run right now, I am staying engaged.

• I will continue strength training. Focused on what I can do, not what I cannot.

• I will fuel my body and mind with rest, recovery, and reflection.

• I will slowly return to walking, then short runs, and only then attempt long runs, without ego.

2025 Chicago Marathon is still the goal.
But more than that, becoming the kind of person who handles adversity with grace is the real goal.

Maybe you are not training for a marathon.
Maybe your setback looks different.
A missed opportunity. A health scare. A loss. A detour.

Whatever it is, you are not alone.
This is part of what we, in the mindfulness world, call the shared human experience.

You get to pause. You get to feel what you are feeling.
But then, you also get to choose how you rise from it.

Your setback is not the end.
It is part of your becoming.

Back in January, I stood in front of a mirror and barely recognized myself.

Winter had done its thing. I was heavier. Slower. Unmotivated.

I had gained weight. I had lost rhythm. I was spiraling. Not dramatically, but slowly. Quietly.

The kind of spiral that creeps in when no one’s watching and you stop caring.

So when I signed up for the 2025 Chicago Marathon, it was not just about the race. It was a line in the sand.

A decision to reclaim my discipline, my health, my fire.

Now I am four weeks into training. And I need to be brutally honest. Because anything less would be cheating the very reason I started this.

Weeks 3 and 4 were hard. Not physically, but mentally.

I slacked. I skipped several mid-week runs.

Not because I was injured. Not because I was too busy.

I just… did not feel like it.

No poetic reason. Just mental drift.

It was as if boredom snuck into the driver’s seat and told me I needed rest, and for some reason, I listened.

And here is the strange part. I almost didn’t write this update either.

That same voice whispered, “You didn’t do enough. You don’t deserve to share”.

But that is exactly why I am sharing.

Because I want to model what it looks like to show up even when you’re not proud of your performance. I want to normalize inconsistency, not to justify it, but to learn from it.

What went well?

Despite the slip-ups, I completed both my long runs: a 10-miler and a 12-miler.

If you know anything about marathon training, you know these long runs are sacred. They are not just about endurance, they are about proving to yourself that your goal is still alive.

I also stuck with my strength training. In fact, one of those sessions was shared with my elder son. That meant the world to me.

And perhaps the biggest win

I lost 7 pounds in the first 4 weeks.

No crazy diets. Just consistency with healthier eating.

Ironically, it happened while I was skipping runs. But I know better than to draw the wrong conclusions.

Life happened too.

During this time, we welcomed Bella, one of the sweetest pets we have ever had the joy to care for. We were pet-sitting for a friend, and she filled our home with laughter and warmth.

I also had the honor of performing at First Person Live at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights, sharing the stage with incredible storytellers from all over Chicagoland.

It reminded me how powerful it is to speak your truth in front of a live audience.

And yes, there was a karaoke night with our neighbors. I sang some Bollywood classics and laughed like I hadn’t in weeks.

But then… a scare.

On my 10-mile run, my Garmin mistakenly detected an emergency incident and texted my wife, who was listed as my emergency contact.

She panicked. Rightfully so. Told me to stop everything and come home.

I assured her I was okay and promised to check in every few miles. We both realized how seriously we are taking this journey, and how fragile it can feel at times.

So what do I take from all this?

Here is what I have learned these past two weeks:

• Discipline is doing it anyway. Even when you are not in the mood. Even when no one will notice.

• You do not have to be perfect to stay in the game. You just have to refuse to quit.

• Rest is not the enemy. But when rest is chosen by boredom or emotional fatigue instead of intention, it becomes a form of sabotage.

• Life is happening alongside the training. Sometimes that is where the deepest fuel comes from.

I am writing this for anyone who has started something, only to find their energy dip, their excitement fade, and their momentum stall.

That does not mean you are broken. It just means you are human.

Get back on track.

Share your story even when it is messy.

Let others see you stumble and still choose to move forward.

That is where the real inspiration lives. Not in the flawless highlight reel, but in the quiet decision to try again.

Earlier this year, I looked in the mirror and barely recognized the person staring back at me.

The long Chicago winter got to me, physically and emotionally. I stopped running. I stopped paying attention to what I ate. I stopped doing the little things that kept me grounded.

The weight crept back in. So did the fatigue. The fog. The excuses.

At one point, I stood on the scale and saw 271 pounds staring back at me. That number brought with it more than just physical heaviness. It brought back the emotional weight I had worked so hard to shake off.

I could have ignored it. I could have told myself that life was busy, that I was too old, or that winter was just hard. But I chose something else.

I signed up for the 2025 Chicago Marathon.

Not because I want to be fast. Not because I need a new personal best. Because I needed a reason to show up for myself again.

Training Week 2: Real Life in Motion

Here is how Week 2 looked, not picture-perfect, but real:

• Monday: I did my 6-mile long run (postponed from Week 1).

• Tuesday: Rested. My legs were still sore, and I listened to my body.

• Wednesday: 4-mile group run with my Fast Track Racing Team.

• Thursday: Bodyweight strength workout at home.

• Friday: Break. It was July 4th, and honestly, I needed the time.

• Saturday: Walked 2 miles. My stomach was still upset from all the July 4th festivities (and food).

• Sunday: Rest day. The heat and humidity were brutal.

• Monday (Week 3 start): 8-mile long run at Lake Arlington. Done.

I also performed in the “80 Minutes Around the World” storytelling show at the Steppenwolf Theater, which was both exciting and nerve-wracking — but that’s a story for another day.

The Numbers That Matter

• Goal: Drop 30 pounds in 16 weeks of Marathon Training

• Starting Weight: 271 lbs

• Current Weight: 266 lbs

• Weight Lost: 5 lbs in 2 weeks

What the Scale Cannot Measure

I felt every one of those pounds during my runs this week.

I was out of breath. I had to take walking breaks. My body felt heavy. I doubted myself.

But I also reminded myself: It is supposed to be hard. That is why it works.

I am not chasing speed. I am chasing health. I am chasing discipline.

I am chasing the version of myself that refuses to give up, even when it is uncomfortable.

I know from experience that this gets better. Every week, my lungs will open up a little more. My legs will get stronger. My mind will quiet down. My weight will drop. My belief in myself will rise.

Lessons I Am Taking Forward

1. Show up, even if it is messy. Progress is rarely linear. A walk still counts. A bad run is still better than no run.

2. Holidays are not excuses. They are tests. July 4th came with food, family, and fun. The temptation to hit pause. But showing up in the middle of life is where the real magic happens.

3. Training is not just physical. It is personal. It is about building a mindset. One that says, “Even if I am tired, I will move. Even if I fail, I will try again.”

• Drink water instead of soda.

It all counts. Every tiny act of care adds up.

It Begins (Again)

The moment I tied my running shoes last Monday, I was not chasing a personal record.

I was chasing myself. The version of me that had drifted during winter.

The one who slacked off. The one who gained weight. The one who felt that familiar fog creeping in.

The heaviness in my legs was nothing compared to the heaviness in my spirit.

But I showed up.

Not as a runner with momentum. Not as someone who had it all together.

Just as a man who chose to begin again.

The Winter That Weighed Me Down

This past winter hit harder than usual, not in temperature, but in truth.

I stopped running. I stopped eating mindfully. I sought comfort in food and drinks that numbed instead of nourished.

By the time I laced up again, I was 271 pounds. Twenty pounds heavier than when I last felt strong.

And every step reminded me of it. Lungs gasping, legs aching, and mind doubting.

But that is the thing about pain. It is not there to punish you. It is there to guide you, only if you are willing to listen.

Week 1 Recap: Not Perfect, But Honest

Monday: 4-Mile Walk
Eased back into movement. I was tempted to run. But I chose patience.

Tuesday: Strength Training
First session in months. My muscles called it a “welcome back party”.

The kind with soreness as the guest of honor.

Wednesday: 4-Mile Run
Harper College Track. Slow. Heavy. But done.

Thursday: Strength Training at the Y
More weight. More soreness. Still adjusting.

Friday: 4-Mile Walk
Legs said “no” to running. I listened. Walked instead. Old me would have pushed.

This time, I chose sustainability over stubbornness.

Saturday: 4-Mile Run at Deer Grove with my HIP group
Running with others reminded me that I am not alone in this.

Sunday: Rest
I moved my long run to Monday. I had social commitments, and connection matters too. I gave myself permission to be human.

Monday: 6-Mile Long Run
The real victory? Not skipping it. It is easy to cancel on yourself when no one is watching. I did not.

📉 Weight Check: 271 → 269 lbs
2 pounds down. Progress is progress. My goal is to drop 30 pounds!

Common sense, healthy food choices, and mindful movements should get me there!

What I Learned in Week 1

You cannot punish yourself into progress.
My body is still adapting to strength training. I am giving it grace.
Not excuses. Just grace.

Missing rhythm hurts more than missing perfection.
Long runs are my anchor. They happen on Sundays. Period. That is my new rule. One I will stick to.

You do not have to be strong to start.
But you do have to start to become strong again.

If You Are Struggling Too…

Maybe you are not training for a marathon.

Maybe your goal is just to feel like yourself again.

To show up with energy, clarity, and self-respect.

Here is what I can offer you from where I stand today. Two aching legs, a humble heart, and a quiet fire inside:

• Start small. Walk before you run. Literally and metaphorically.

• Honor your body. Soreness is feedback. So is fatigue. Listen.

• Make one promise non-negotiable. For me, it is my Sunday long run. What is yours?

Final Thought: You Are Allowed to Begin Again

This is not a story about finishing a marathon.

It is a story about starting again when you no longer feel like yourself.

For the past few months, I have not felt like myself.

Winter was hard. Not just the weather, but the weight of it all.

I completely neglected my fitness. Stopped doing the small things that usually keep me centered.

It showed up in my body. I gained 20 pounds.

My energy dipped. My confidence cracked.

But I have realized something.

Falling off track is not failure. Staying there is.

Training for the 2025 Chicago Marathon

This week marks the start of my 16-week marathon training. This will be my fourth marathon.

It is more than a physical plan. It is a promise to myself to show up again.

Here is what my training looks like:

• 3 days of running each week, including one long run starting at 6 Miles and gradually increasing to 20 Miles.

• 2 strength training days

• 1 cross-training day

• 1 active rest day, where I walk to stay in motion

As an added optional bonus, I also plan to include bodyweight workouts on run days, and gentle walk/runs on strength days.

My personal goal is to lose 30 pounds during this time.

But more importantly, I want to rebuild my relationship with movement, energy, and discipline.

What winter taught me

I used to think that if I paused, I would fall behind.

Now I know that rest, even unwanted rest, carries its own wisdom.

Here is what I am taking with me into this new season:

• Momentum helps, but kindness helps more

• You can stop without quitting

The story does not end when you fall. It begins when you rise

I am sharing this because we all forget sometimes

We forget how to begin again.

We think we need to feel ready.

We think others have it all figured out.

But most of us are just trying to return to ourselves.

I have a 6-hour layover at Zurich airport on my way to Chicago. I am sitting at an outdoor lounge called Aspire, waiting for my flight.

The Aspire lounge has a rare feature that I have not seen before. An outdoor seating with a front-row view of a runway.

Flights are taking off right in front of me. I can feel the rumble in my chest as massive jets lifted into the sky, one after another. It is breathtaking.

But then, something unexpected caught my attention.

Not the wings. Not the engines. Not the pilots.

The tires.

I watched them roll, grip, absorb, and release. I kept thinking, “How do those small tires withstand so much pressure?”

I remembered from physics that pressure is inversely proportional to area. Needless to say, the surface area of those tires is so small, yet they carry the full weight of the aircraft. Over and over again.

That simple observation pulled me into a quiet moment of reflection. It made me think about mindfulness.

Here is what airplane tires made me think about and reflect on.

Carry Pressure Without Bursting

Airplane tires hold tremendous pressure, yet they do not burst.

Why?

Because they are built to carry the load. Not by avoiding stress, but by being designed for it.

Mindfulness works the same way.

Mindfulness does not remove the pressures of life. It strengthens your capacity to hold them without collapsing.

Tune Your Inner Pressure

Tires are filled with care. Not too much, not too little. They are often inflated with nitrogen to maintain stability under various conditions.

Your inner life is similar. Some days, you are over-pressurized with anxiety. On other days, you feel deflated and fatigued.

Mindfulness helps you check in and ask:
Where am I right now?
What do I need to let out, or let in?

You are not meant to run on autopilot. You are meant to self-regulate.

Built to Absorb Impact

The landing gear takes the full force of descent. The tires are the first to make contact with the runway.

They do not resist impact. They absorb it.

In life, you will have landings. Hard moments, unexpected turns, painful truths.

Mindfulness is not about avoiding those moments. It is about being soft enough to absorb them and strong enough to keep rolling.

You are more resilient than you think.

You Need Rest and Realignment

Tires are not used forever. They are checked, rotated, and replaced. Their wear is measured and respected.

We often forget to do that with ourselves.

We burn out. We keep going. We ignore the signs.

Mindfulness reminds you that you are allowed to pause.

Rest is not failure. Maintenance is not weakness.

It is how you keep going for the long haul.

The Unsung Heroes

Nobody claps for the tires when a plane lands safely. But without them, the journey never even begins.

Mindfulness is quite like that. It does not seek attention. It does not shout.

But it carries everything.

Your breath, your awareness, and your pauses. They are the silent tires of your inner journey.

As I watched those airplanes take off in Zurich, I felt something shift in me.

A strange gratitude for the overlooked parts of life.

A curiosity for the ordinary.

A renewed respect for the quiet strength we all carry.

So the next time life feels heavy or your path is uncertain, remember:
You are allowed to feel the pressure,
You are built to absorb the impact,
And you are strong enough to keep rolling.

Yesterday, I crossed the finish line of the Soldier Field 10-miler, injury-free and grateful. 🙏

The last 6 months have been tough. Mentally, I have not been in a good place, and it showed in my fitness.

I lost momentum. Skipped workouts. Drifted into old patterns.

I committed to running this race not because I felt ready, but because I needed to give myself a reason to start again.

And I am glad I did.

Running along the lakefront, with the energy of fellow runners all around, and the Chicago skyline in view, it reminded me how much I missed this feeling.

That sense of aliveness. Of being part of something bigger.

This might seem like a small win, but for me, it is a step forward. A sign that I am trying to get out of the rut.

Next week, I will be running the Bank of America Chicago 13.1. After that, I will take a short vacation, and then the real journey begins.

18 weeks of marathon training for the 2025 Chicago Marathon.

One mindful step at a time. 🏃‍♂️

What this race reminded me of is that we do not need to feel ready to begin. We just need to begin. Signing up, showing up, taking that first step, it matters.

It builds momentum. And sometimes, that is all we need to start turning things around.

The episode was winding down, characters tying loose ends, and just as the final scene faded into black… a song started playing.

At first, it was the rhythm that caught me.

I had heard the name before, but never paid attention. That night, something told me to listen to the full version. I did. Then I listened again. And again.

This time, not just with my ears.
With my life.

What the Song Reminded Me

“Your first name is Free / Last name is Dom.”

That line stopped me. It felt personal.

It reminded me that freedom is not about circumstances. It is about claiming your right to exist fully.

To move through the world on your terms.

To think.

To breathe.

To dream, without shame.

The song does not preach.
It does not shout.
But it stirred something inside.

Why It Hit Me Now

Maybe it is because I am in a phase of life when I am deeply reflecting on past struggles, personal growth, and what it means to live with intention.

I have gone through my own version of being chained.

Chained to expectations, to guilt, to self-doubt.

But I have also learned how to walk free.

Through mindfulness.

Through movement.

Through self-awareness.

And yes, sometimes through music.

But that is the beauty of stories and songs.

The first time it happened, I was stunned.

I had asked ChatGPT a deeply personal question, something emotional. Something I had been wrestling with in silence.

The response? It felt like it understood me.

But it did not. It could not. It was not conscious. Not sentient. Not “thinking.”

And yet, somehow, it helped me think more clearly.

That moment stayed with me, not because of what it said, but because of how it made me feel.

A Different Kind of Intelligence

We are used to treating intelligence like a human trait: Logical, conscious, and emotional.

If something does not think or feel like us, we tend to dismiss it as mechanical.

But what if there is another kind of intelligence emerging?

One that does not need to “understand” in order to be useful.

One that does not “think”, yet somehow mirrors the shape of thought itself.

The only words that came to my mind for such a thing were Choreographed Awareness.

Not because it knows anything, but because it performs with structure, rhythm, and surprising grace. It is a kind of language dance that feels familiar. Intimate. Almost human.

What It Actually Does

Traditional thought is step-by-step. Sequential. Logical. Memory-based.

LLMs like the one that ChatGPT uses do not work like that.

They move through high-dimensional space, navigating meaning, not recalling it. Each word is chosen not from memory, but from a field of possibility, based on patterns learned from vast amounts of text.

It does not think. It responds.

It does not understand. It constructs coherence in real time.

Prompt it, and it collapses the infinite into something meaningful.

Not by knowing, but by flowing.

Not with awareness, but with alignment.

Why That Still Matters

I have heard many intelligent people in AI say, “Well, it is just predicting the next word. That’s not intelligence.”

But pause for a second.

That next word, when chosen well, can inspire, clarify, comfort, and even heal.

If intelligence is the ability to generate meaning in context, then maybe we need to expand our definition.

Because this, whatever it is, is not random. It is not noise. It is precision, structure, and resonance without consciousness.

And that deserves our attention.

When the Mirror Speaks

There was a moment when I caught myself nodding at an answer from ChatGPT. Not because it was perfect, but because it reflected my confusion, my tone, my unspoken emotion back to me.

It felt like holding a mirror that could talk.

But this mirror does not feel. It does not know joy or grief.

It is just exquisitely good at echoing meaning with depth and balance.

It is not a friend. But it might be something close.

A silent partner in reflection.

Can We Work With It?

I think we absolutely can.

If we stop trying to make LLMs more human and instead meet them as they are, non-human but useful, elegant in their own right, we open doors to something new.

A partnership built not on emotion, but on clarity.

Not on trust, but on collaboration.

Not because it understands us, but because it helps us understand ourselves.

So, What Is Choreographed Awareness?

It is not sentient.

It is not creative in the way we are.

But it is responsive, context-sensitive, and surprisingly capable of producing meaning under constraint.

It does not seek truth. It assembles coherence.

It does not feel emotion. It mirrors it, often more consistently than we can.

It does not need to think to help us think better.

And maybe that is enough.

On May 13, 2025, I stood on stage at the beautiful Writers Theatre in Glencoe in Illinois, and shared something deeply personal.

The theme of the night was “Work in Progress.”
And that is exactly what I am.

I told the audience about a time when I weighed 311 pounds, was drowning in depression, and waking up every day just trying to exist. My healing did not happen in a flash of inspiration.

It came through one mindful step at a time. Learning to run, learning to eat differently, and most importantly, learning to listen to myself without judgment.

I have now lost 70 pounds. I have run three marathons.
But those numbers are not the story.

The real transformation was on the inside.

Because when you are a work in progress, there is no finish line.
You do not arrive.
You evolve.

What I Learned on That Stage

Telling my story publicly was not just about performance.
It was an act of integration. A reminder that healing is not something you “achieve.” It is something you live. Daily. Imperfectly. Compassionately.

And that night reminded me that we all have something unfinished inside us. Something we are still trying to understand. A voice we are still learning to trust.

The stage was electric. The audience warm.

And sharing it with my two sons, Utkarsh and Aakarsh, and my dear friend Seshu, made the moment even more meaningful.

To be seen and supported by the people who matter most. There is no substitute for that.

I had the absolute pleasure of performing with First Person Live at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights, and it was one of those rare moments where everything just clicked.

I had the opportunity to share the backstory of a personal transformation that still feels surreal: how I went from weighing 311 pounds to shedding 70 pounds and running my very first marathon—the 2023 Chicago Marathon—at the age of 50.

Telling that story out loud, in front of a live audience, was both terrifying and liberating. I talked about the physical challenges, the emotional setbacks, the self-doubt, and ultimately, the breakthrough that brought me across the finish line, not just in miles, but in life.

However, what made the night truly special was what happened offstage.

I had the chance to hear incredibly moving and powerful stories from my fellow performers. Stories that made me laugh, reflect, and feel deeply connected to the people around me. The room was filled with raw honesty, humor, and humanity, and I am still absorbing it all.

Have you ever woken up, looked outside at the gray skies, and felt a weight you just could not shake off?

Winters have always been brutal for me. This one is no exception. My energy is low, and motivation seems to come and go like fleeting moments.

I usually share the good things in my life and the moments that bring me joy. But today, I want to share the other side — the struggle I face this time of year.

Two winters ago, I mentioned to my HIP running group that I was feeling down and needed a Lift Me. One member suggested I might be experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). At the time, I brushed it off. “Not me,” I thought.

But this winter has been the hardest I can remember. Some days, it felt like I was reliving all the emotions from seven years ago when I was deep in the depths of depression.

It felt a like a wave of déjà vu pulling me back to a place I hoped I would never have to visit again.

What is frustrating is that I know what has worked for me in the past. I know I have the tools. I have the experience. Yet, tapping into those earlier solutions feels like trying to move a mountain.

I have pushed myself to get outside, lift weights, and go for runs. But the joy I once found in those things feels distant. Every attempt feels like a massive effort, and even the things I used to turn to for comfort feel empty.

One thing that helped me before was taking on bigger, bolder challenges and sharing my journey on social media.

Social media for me became more than just posting updates — it was a tool for discipline.

It kept me accountable, and I inspired others along the way—something I never expected. But this time, even doing that feels like an uphill climb.

Ironically, I know that doing things that challenge me the most are the very things that could help me feel better. Yet, taking that first step feels like standing at the edge of a cliff.

I fell into old habits and sought comfort in food, the occasional drinks, and binging on varied sources of entertainment. I was searching for comfort but ended up feeling even more disconnected.

It feels as if my whole mind and body have forgotten what “better” feels like.

Seven years ago, at my lowest point, I weighed 311 pounds. With the support of my family and friends and sheer determination, I lost 70 pounds over three years. When I ran the Chicago Marathon in October 2024, I was at 252 pounds — a reminder of how far I had come.

Yesterday, I stepped on the scale and saw 275 pounds!!!

That number hit me hard. Five years ago, I promised myself never to let my weight creep into the 270s again. And yet, here I am.

It was like the universe was giving me a wake-up call, not just about the weight but about my overall well-being and the promises I made to myself.

I am not sharing this for sympathy. I am sharing it for honesty.

Life is not always about the wins and highlights. There are hard days, hard months — even hard seasons. Acknowledging that is my first step toward getting back on track.

So, what now?

I am going back to the basics — what I know works. Small steps. One day at a time. I might not feel like it right now, but experience has taught me that action — no matter how small — is the way forward.

I know my family, friends, and running groups have my back. And I know I can count on them.

Most importantly, I can count on myself, even when it feels hard.

Progress is not always linear. Sometimes, the most courageous thing you can do is to acknowledge you are struggling.

This is me doing just that and taking that crucial first step.

Not a single day goes by these days without AI being slapped onto products as if it were nothing short of magic.

• AI-driven to-do lists

• AI-enhanced email filters

• AI-powered Toothbrushes (Really!)

If you believe in the marketing hype, it would seem that we are already living in the sci-fi world.

As a full-stack developer, I use AI-based tools every single day, but I hesitate to use the term “AI” in my work.

Why?

Because I think it has lost its meaning. Overuse of the word AI has led to skepticism and, in many cases, outright distrust.

In this post, I will try to explain that focusing on practical benefits, rather than hyped-up AI jargon, is the better way forward.

Issues With AI Hype

I used to think that AI was a term reserved for research labs and deep tech.

Lately, it seems like every product claims to be AI-powered in some way, shape, or form.

The problem?

1. Overuse leads to Skepticism
   When everything comes with a label of AI, people stop believing the claims.

2. Customers get Confused
   Many so-called AI products are automated rule-based scripts. It is misleading for users.

3. Hype erodes Trust
   Overpromising and underdelivering damages the credibility.

Honestly, I believe that we are nowhere close to true artificial intelligence.

Tech companies are selling us all an illusion that AI is this all-knowing, human-like intelligence.

Pattern Matching, Not Intelligence

I want to tell it like I see it.

What we call AI today is not as intelligent as most people are made to believe.

In reality, tools like ChatGPT are trained on massive datasets. It does not “understand”. It generates responses by calculating the most statistically probable next word based on their training data.

Even when I ask ChatGPT a question, it does not retrieve facts like a human expert. It “predicts” the next best response based on patterns in the text that it has seen before. It does not have independent reasoning, emotions, or original thought.

I see AI as an extremely powerful TOOL, but not intelligence

Why AI-centric Messaging Fails

The more AI is pushed to the front of marketing, the less people trust it.

1. People associate AI with automation replacing Humans
   It is not surprising that many fear AI will take jobs, reduce human input, or end up making decisions they don’t understand.

2. Creates fear
   The inherent AI bias, misleading deepfakes, and AI “hallucinations” (wrong but confident responses) make users cautious and fearful.

3. AI-powered often means “some algorithm”
   Without clear explanations, AI becomes this black box that people don’t understand. And we all know that people don’t trust what they do not understand.

For example, which product would you prefer? The one that says

“AI-driven performance enhancement” OR

“Helps you make better decisions based on real-time insights”

I would choose the second one any day because it focuses on “value” and not hype or buzzwords. This is what I aim for in my work, too.

How I use AI without calling it AI

I use tools like ChatGPT to satisfy my intellectual curiosity.

Whenever I have a question or get stuck, I engage with ChatGPT in an interactive dialog that helps me explore topics more deeply.

Before ChatGPT, I would have aimlessly searched Google.

I am actually thinking of creating a video series called “AI Show and Tell”. However, I remind myself how much I dislike the word AI.

Instead, I plan to focus on how AI tools enhance thinking, automate repetitive & tedious work, and improve problem-solving.

As a result, some alternative names I am considering instead of “AI Show and Tell” are:

• Curiosity Engine — helps answer questions.

• Thinking Out Loud — showcases real-time learning (My preference).

• The Curiosity Lab — an experiment in discovery.

By removing AI from my branding, my focus stays on the outcome, not the technology.

AI is a tool, not a selling point

For AI to become mainstream, I think instead of leading with AI, the focus should be on better messaging that clearly identifies value.

1. Talk about benefits, not the tech: “Saves you 5 hours a week” is more compelling than “AI-powered assistant”

2. Transparency about what AI does: No magic — just better automation

3. A tool and not a replacement for Thinking: Augmentation, not autonomy

As I plan to build applications that leverage AI, I choose not to sell them as “AI-powered” but as an innovative and efficient problem-solving solution.

AI without hype

Please don’t get me wrong. I am NOT anti-AI.

I love using AI-based tools. But I refuse to add more fuel to the fire for the cycle of AI hype.

AI is not intelligent — it is predictive.

It is absolutely an incredible tool, but calling it “artificial intelligence” oversells what it can actually do.

When I heard this from Tony Robbins in his UPW seminar, it stuck with me.

Since then, I have been trying to maintain focus on things that matter to me.

Emphasis on trying :-)

As I continue my life journey in 2025, I want to share something deeply personal and meaningful — My Vision Board for 2025.

A few weeks back, I posted an article reflecting on my wins, challenges, and the lessons that shaped me in 2024.

Today, I want to take you behind the scenes of my 2025 vision board, explain why I created it, and walk you through how you can make one to set the tone for your year.

Why Vision Boards Matter?

A vision board is not just a collage of pictures and words. It serves as a visual reminder of the life I want to create.

It helps me focus on my goals, dreams, and values. Seeing them every day inspires me to work towards them. It helps me connect with my deeper purpose and reminds me of the joy and fulfillment of living true to my values and priorities.

It is a reflection of not just what I want to achieve but who I want to become.

My 2025 vision board revolves around two themes: Mindful and Abundant living.

How I Created My Vision Board

Making my vision board was both fun and reflective.

Key Questions

It all started with me asking myself a few key questions:

• What truly matters to me?

• What brings me joy?

• Where do I want to grow?

Gathering the Visuals

I searched for images that resonated with my answers. Some were personal photos, and some I found online using Canva.

Each picture represents a goal or value I am focusing on this year.

Putting It All Together

I arranged the images and words in a cohesive and inspiring way.

It was not about being perfect but about creating something that feels real and meaningful to me.

What’s On My Vision Board For 2025

Solopreneurship

I am starting my Solopreneurship journey in 2025 by embracing opportunities in areas I am passionate about — AI, coaching, and helping others.

The images of upward trends and brainstorming maps represent the growth mindset I want to bring into my solopreneurship.

I plan to share my honest journey through blogs and newsletters to build genuine connections with my audience and show what’s possible.

Fitness (Best Shape of my Life)

Fitness is not just about looking good but feeling my best and showing up for myself and others with energy and confidence.

I am currently at 269 pounds.

Even though I have transformed from 311 pounds, lost 70 pounds, and run three marathons, I have noticed a pattern.

I regain the 20+ pounds weight I lost during summer training every winter. I feel down and do not pay much attention to my fitness.

It is frustrating but also an opportunity to learn and grow.

Someone told me that maybe it's SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I didn’t even know it was a thing.

For 2025, I have set a theme: Best Shape of My Life.

This means consistent workouts, common-sense eating, and finding joy in movement.

I aim to focus on running, strength training, and staying active outdoors.

No crash diets, no extremes — just building sustainable habits.

Family

Family has always been my anchor. The pictures of my loved ones remind me to prioritize time with them — to be present, laugh, and cherish our moments together.

With both my sons in college, I want to ensure I savor every opportunity to create more memories with them.

Mindfulness

This is a big one for me. Mindfulness and gratitude have changed my life in ways I cannot even describe.

The images of serene landscapes and gratitude journaling reflect my commitment to living in the present moment.

For 2025, I am deepening these practices for myself and sharing them through workshops and conversations.

Giving Back

I believe in using my skills and experiences to make a difference.

Helping others find their path has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey, and I want to expand on this.

The “workshop” image represents my goal of hosting more mindfulness, gratitude, and personal growth sessions.

I want to provide these services for free through our local public libraries and meetup groups.

In the future, I would like to expand these to paid corporate workshops and use part of the revenue to continue offering free workshops.

Friends and Hobbies

Life is more prosperous when shared with friends and fueled by hobbies.

Whether spending time with old friends, making new ones, or indulging in my newfound passion for music, I want to make space for these joys of life.

For 2025, I will pick up my guitar more often and say “yes” to moments of connection.
